Braylon Edwards Scores Big With Annual Charity Weekend
DETROIT, MI--Pro-Bowl NFL wide receiver Braylon Edwards scored a touchdown of a different kind this month on behalf of arts and education organizations in his hometown of Detroit. As part of his third annual charity weekend, the Cleveland Browns star brought together some of Metro Detroit’s most high-profile civic, sports and philanthropic leaders to help support organizations such as the Music Hall, Detroit School of Arts and the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

The all-star weekend kicked off with a major community partnership between the Braylon Edwards Foundation (BEF) and the international hunger relief organization Feed the Children. Together, they provided 400 boxes of food and personal care items for Detroit families in need. During the event, Edwards received top honors from the City.  Kenneth Cockrel Jr., President of the Detroit City Council presented him with a testimonial resolution and the Spirit of Detroit Award.

Edwards’ gift of food was followed by an awards brunch celebrating the achievements of women.  Braylon along with his mother and BEF executive director Malesa Plater hosted the 2nd Annual “Women Moving Forward and Reach Back” awards brunch. Dr. Ian Smith, celebrity medical expert and best selling author served as the keynote speaker as hundreds of prominent women saw three of Metro Detroit’s leading champions saluted for their contributions in the areas of health and education.  “I’ve watched my mother’s ability to raise successful children, run businesses, manage a household and serve her community.  The women honored have contributed in a major way to move Detroit forward” says Edwards.

The weekend culminated with an Arts and Stars gala.  Glitz and glamour took center stage as Edwards and six-time Sports Illustrated Super model Jessica White hosted the red carpet soiree held at the beautiful Max Fisher Music Center. Michigan’s top tastemakers enjoyed great music and dined on cuisine from featured restaurants: Kona Grille, Mon Jin Lau, Black Fin, Mosiac, and Zumba.  Evening highlights included music performances by R&B newcomer Brandon Hines who gave an amazing tribute to Michael Jackson and hip hop artist Big Sean (Island Def Jam/G.O.O.D. Music).
